Parent Faculty Association
The Parent/Faculty Association (PFA) is a vibrant partner in the education of children at Corbett Prep. Parents at Corbett Prep are a significant part of the child's learning experience both in and out of the classroom. Volunteerism is recognized in our weekly Heads’ Letter, and there is a special Volunteer Appreciation Day each spring.
Purpose
The PFA is recognized by the Corbett Prep Board of Trustees as a support organization formed for the purposes of promoting good communications, a spirit of partnership, and a sense of community at Corbett Prep. Working closely with the Corbett Prep Administration, the PFA performs services and undertakes projects designed to enhance the educational experience of the children, and to strengthen the institution. Community service, program support, and fundraising are the PFA’s most important goals.
In addition, the PFA provides wonderful community outreach opportunities. PFA especially enjoys bringing parents on campus for special events that are designed to create a welcoming family feeling. It also supports the Headmaster Coffee-talks, Edu-talks and Edu-tours and Admissions Open Houses. Also the PFA provides community building opportunities like the Welcome Back Party.
Membership
All parents of current students and all members of the Corbett Prep teaching and administrative staff are automatically members of the PFA.
Officers & Committees
The governing body of the PFA is the PFA Executive Committee. Standing committees of the PFA may change from year to year as needs arise. Ad hoc committees may also be formed. At present, the standing committees include:
- Room Parent Coordinators (RPC's): support teachers in the classroom
- Booster Committee: supports the athletic program through fundraising and social events
- Fine Arts: supports the music and art divisions through fundraising and assisting with special productions and exhibits
- Library: supports the media center/library and Book Fairs
- Gift Wrap: annual fundraiser involving the sale of gift wrap products
- The Big Event: annual fundraiser providing a large community celebration
- Golf Tournament: held annually
- Fall Festival
- Parent Networking
- Community Outreach
- Book Club
PFA/Volunteer Communication
The PFA Executive Committee communicates with the Corbett Prep community through the school’s Thursday folders, the weekly Heads’ Letters and Facebook. In addition, the PFA President, as an ex officio member of the Board, keeps the Board of Trustees informed of PFA activities with a written and verbal report. One of the most important functions of the PFA Executive Committee is to serve as a liaison between the parent body and school staff and administration.
