IDS-CC Community School of the Arts
to Hold Open Auditions for Student Productions of Cats
Two productions of the popular musical will offer opportunities for students of all ages to perform.
Dec. 7, 2011 (TAMPA, Fla.) – Whether your child is in prekindergarten or a senior in high school, the Community School of the Arts at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus offers an opportunity for students of all ages to perform in an upcoming production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical phenomenon, Cats.
The Community School of the Arts at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus (IDS-CC) will hold open auditions for the spring 2012 production of the legendary Broadway hit on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012. Auditions will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in Corbett Hall on the school's campus at 12015 Orange Grove Drive in Carrollwood. Show performances will be June 7-10, 2012.
The IDS-CC Community School of the Arts will stage two productions of the play: one cast will feature students in grades 9-12. A second cast will include students in grades 3-8. Students in prekindergarten - 2nd grade may participate in the youth cast's Kitten Chorus.
Students interested in auditioning for the high school or youth casts should be prepared to sing 16 bars in the style of the show, bring CDs or plan to sing a capella, and be familiar with the music from Cats for callback purposes. A lengthy dance audition also will be included, so students should come to the audition dressed to dance.
Rehearsals will begin on Jan. 14, 2012 and take place every Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Members of the Kitten Chorus will be called for only some of the rehearsals and will have specific sections of music/dance assigned.
"Our hope is that this opportunity to perform in the Kitten Chorus will help spark the interest of young children in being involved with future shows," said director Seth Travaglino.
The cost is $100 for high school and youth cast performers and $25 for Kitten Chorus performers. In addition, each cast member will be required to sell or purchase 20 tickets @ $10.00 each. Kitten Chorus members will be asked to sell 10 tickets. Please contact Travaglino with any questions at akhocker@msn.com or 813-240-2039.
Now in its ninth year, the Community School of the Arts at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus offers numerous programs ranging from guided exploration for young children, to traditional classes and lessons, innovative seminars, and numerous performing opportunities in musical theatre, music, dance and the visual arts.
