About
the Community School of the Arts
Welcome to
the Community School of the Arts
at Independent Day School - Corbett Campus. Our school has programs
ranging from guided exploration for young children, traditional
classes and lessons in music, visual arts, dance and theatre, innovative
seminars, and numerous performing opportunities.
As you play
your way through our dynamic curriculum, utilizing the best traditions
available as well as the latest technology, both children and adults
will develop creativity, self-confidence, self-discipline, perseverance,
and a positive work ethic through pride in a job well done.
Research
shows innumerable benefits for children through older adults. Students
of the arts have demonstrated improved brain function, stronger
problem solving and critical thinking skills, and higher standardized
test scores. Best of all, you will make lasting connections within
our community as you experience the sheer joy of the performing
arts.
Come, discover your creative
genius!

LESSON
OPTIONS
Music lessons are offered
in three formats:
1. In traditional private
lessons, the student and teacher meet once each week for 30 minutes.
Lessons are catered to that student’s precise needs.
2. Pair lessons also meet
for thirty minutes each week and include two students and the teacher.
This format offers a nice mix of individual instruction, learning
duets, and cooperative music theory activities.
3. In group lessons, six
students meet with the instructor in the keyboard lab for 45 minutes
once each week. Students receive individual assignments each week
and work cooperatively on fundamentals and music theory. All dance
classes meet in groups and drama meets as an ensemble.
