Sports,
fine arts, field trips, and adventure. With 27 different mini camps
and 77 full and half-day sessions, Camp IDS 2003 at Independent
Day School-Corbett Campus (IDS-CC) in Tampa offers children a summer
camp experience that meets a wide variety of interests and ages.
"Camp IDS is unique because children can choose what they want
to do," said Barbara Grady, camp coordinator. "We offer
so many different mini camps that parents can tailor their selections
to create a unique experience to meet their child's specific interests.
For example, a child can participate in sewing, band, cooking, or
broadcasting in the morning, and then drama, computers, photography,
or model rocketry in the afternoon."
In addition, Camp IDS offers nine different sports options: archery,
basketball, cheerleading, flag football, karate, soccer, softball/baseball,
sports games, and volleyball.
"Another special feature of Camp IDS is that all senior staff
members are adults," said Grady. "Many teenage students
help out, which makes it fun for the children, but each camp is
under the direction of an adult counselor."
Full day recreation camps for children ages 3 through 7 are designed
for individual age groups. Preschoolers enjoy games, crafts and
activities on campus, while older children visit local attractions
and parks to bowl, skate, play putt-putt, and see movies.
An "Adventure Camp" is offered for children in grades
3 through 8 enabling them to visit MOSI, the Florida Aquarium, the
Lowry Park Zoo, and Weeki Wachee, and to enjoy canoeing, gardening,
ice skating, and swimming. Campers in grades 6 through 8 can participate
in "Teen Rec," which includes trips to the beach, pool,
bowling, go carts, and IMAX, as well as the opportunity to participate
in sports, soap and candle making, and computer activities such
as learning how to burn CDs. Sixth through ninth graders can participate
in a "Wilderness Extreme" camp featuring hiking, orienteering,
mountain biking, snorkeling, canoeing, teambuilding, roller blading,
and rock climbing.
Camp IDS is divided into one-week sessions from June 30 to July
25, 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Extended care is available in the mornings
from 7:30 - 8:30 and in the afternoons from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. A complete
list of mini camps and registration forms are available by calling
