Gather To Learn New Strategies
For Boosting Student Success
For
immediate release:
January 23, 2003
Tampa, Florida
More
than 200 educators from public and private schools across the state
of Florida will gather at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus
(IDS-CC) on January 24-25 to attend training on the latest strategies
for awakening new levels of learning in students and increasing
success.
The training, hosted by the University of South Florida's David
C. Anchin Center and the Florida Council of Independent Schools,
will feature internationally-renown researcher, trainer and author
Dr. Spencer Kagan and presenter and author Laurie Kagan. They will
discuss "Higher-Level Thinking & Increased Achievement"
and "Cooperative Learning Structures for Success."
Dr. Kagan and his wife, Laurie Kagan, have captured the attention
of educators worldwide with innovative research-based learning strategies.
These structures give teachers tools to address the individual ways
students absorb information and help them reach all types of learners.
Training participants will be able to observe IDS faculty doing
model lessons in the classrooms. "Teachers will see a revolutionary
approach to instruction in action," said Dr. Kagan. "IDS
is a model school for Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures. Educators
from around the United States and even other countries have visited
the school to see the power of these techniques."
According to Dr. Kagan, teachers will leave the training with practical
techniques they can use the next day. Learning how to incorporate
strategies such as multiple intelligences, cooperative learning
activities, and higher-level thinking structures into everyday lessons
will help teachers evoke peak performance from themselves and their
students.
Dr. Joyce Burick Swarzman, Head of IDS-CC said, "We consider
teacher training to be the heart of education. We're excited to
offer this workshop for the sixth consecutive year to showcase the
best and most exciting teaching techniques - and give visiting educators
the opportunity to explore the caring environment and creative curriculum
our teachers work so hard to provide."
Founded in 1968, IDS, recently renamed Independent Day School-Corbett
Campus, is a fully accredited, non-sectarian, independent school
