Pre-K
Students Are Working Hard
by
Michael Silva
"Pre-K is doing a great job this year!" says Mrs. Jankowski,
the pre-k division leader. The class has been involved in many interesting
projects, and their behavior has been very good. Mrs. Jankowski
described them as a caring class.
In recent memory, they took a field trip to the Tampa Bay Coast.
They discovered crabs, bugs, and other exotic creatures that live
in the Tampa Bay area. They discussed what they saw and learned
a great deal.
Knowing that each students does his or her part here at IS, the
Pre-K experienced contributing
to the community by handing out prizes to the teachers at IDS for
Teacher Appreciation Week.
Their last project was studying a children author for the young
author's conference that the middle school participated in as well.
Just to let you al] of you know, you are not the only ones doing
Kagan Cooperative Learning in this school. The Pre- K is doing a
lot of it. They have participated in round tables, rally tables,
numbered heads together, inside-outside circle, four corners, telephone
(which Mrs. J say was a very hard task), and showdown.
If you ask me I think that the Pre-K is ready for anything the kindergarten
has to offer!
Big Event Was a
Big Success!
by
Chelsea Fernandez
The Big Event "Saturday Night Fever," held April 2 l,
was a big success. The event raised more than $6 l,000, which was
more than the organizers expected. This wonderful party-fundraiser
was attended by 350 people. The theme was the 70's.
The theme baskets donated by each class were very creative. Some
of the donated items included dinners at restaurants, theme park
tickets, movie tickets, sport event tickets, toys, CD's, books,
concert tickets, and so much more.
There was a student contest held by the school to determine what
the 70's program design would be. Each student was allowed to submit
artwork. The designs from the top three winners were carefully selected.
The winner was Carolyn Rosemurgy from fourth grade whose design
was the letters IDS as dancing characters with musical notes at
the top.
The guests who attended Saturday Night Fever enjoyed a wonderful
evening of dancing, delicious food, and wonderful raffle items.
What a great success!
Looking
Up to Sports Athletes as Heroes
By Aaron Elozory
Kids have heroes that play some sport, but should they look up to
them and be like them? I asked ten of my classmates if they should
or shouldn't have a sport athlete hero. It came out to be a tie,
but two of the people I interviewed had the strongest reasons and
examples.
Rutger Myers, a seventh grade student, and he said, "No, a
kid shouldn't look up to an athlete because of all of the stupid
things they do. For example, taking drugs or drinking and driving
... are things that we don't want kids to do."
Seventh grader Nick Amore thought differently. Nick thought that
kids should have an athlete for hero because they give them an idea
of how to work hard to achieve goals. Just because a few of the
athletes make stupid mistakes doesn't mean kid shouldn't try to
be all they can be.
In this reporter's opinion, a kid should look up to an athlete,
because they can be good role models.
