Eighth Grade Visits Many Sites in Washington, D.C.

By Randy Hamzah

The eighth grade recently took a trip to Washington D.C. They stayed at the Hilton where according to Mr. Beeble, "The food was good and the mattresses were comfortable."

There were many sites to see in Washington D.C. The eighth grade had planned on visiting a number of them, thirty-four in all! The play Shear Madness was one of the student's favorite things to see. Andrew Ojeda exclaimed, "It was great! I could not stop laughing." The play was based on a murder mystery that took place inside of a hair-cutting salon. The audience was allowed to participate and ask questions to try and help solve the murder.

The eighth grade was then lucky to be able to take a tour of the FBI building. The FBI building is always booked with tours every year but eighth-grade social studies teacher Mrs. Grady was able to get them inside. Inside the FBI building, pictures of famous criminals were hung up on the wall. The best part of the FBI building had to be the gun demonstration. Taylor Dunn explained, "Yeah, that was pretty cool!"

When the students were driven to Williamsburg, a three-hour trip, there was not a lot to do, so each student had to be in the bus talent show. The talent in that bus was amazing. There were~boy bands and girls bands showing off their musical talents. Kids wrote their own songs and raps. Everything was recorded on videotape. The best act in the talent show had to be the group "Out of Sync" who danced to the beat quite well.

In Williamsburg it was like being back in Revolutionary times. There were reenactors playing parts of local people inside the town. People could join the militia if trained enough. Carriage rides and places to eat were everywhere. The eighth grade was given over
three hours of free time just to do whatever they wanted and experience what it was like in Revolutionary times.

After all that, it was time to pack up their luggage and head home. John the bus driver said, "This was probably the best group I have ever had!" Once the eighth grade arrived at the airport, it was time to say goodbye to the great trip they had!
