Eighth
Graders Get Ready for High School
by
Kelly Matthews
All of eighth grade admits that this year has been a huge learning
experience. Brittany Davis even explained, "Ever since I have
been going to IDS, I have always looked up to the eighth graders,
and it is hard to believe that I am now a big eighth grader."
Some students have enjoyed the academic challenge of eighth grade.
"One of the hardest challenges this year has been math class.
Mr. Bronson has definitely showed us how hard high school is going
to be," said Jackie DeMarco.
Some will remember the fun they had. " I will never forget
going to Washington with my schoolmates. We not only learned a lot,
but we had
a blast," explained Andrea Wallis.
As a whole, every kid in eighth grade has learned something that
cannot be taught in a classroom. It has to with bonding with classmates
and being together for such a long time.
Ashley Sierra admitted, " I have been going to IDS for ten
years, and I am accustomed to this school. In a way, I am scared
to leave it."
Along with Ashley there are seven other eighth-grade students that
have been attending Independent Day School for ten years in this
year's graduating class. They are Andrew Boza, Randy Hamzah, Kelly
Lawrence, Heather Pate, Chris Redmon, Mackenzie Stewart: and Devin
Wittcoff.

Dances are a Blast!
by Derek Redmon
School dances are the best part of everybody's
trimester. They are given at IDS to reward us for the hard work
that every student does each trimester.
The people that make this possible are the members of the Middle
School Student Council. They come up with an idea of where, when,
how, who, what, and why we are having the dance.
The council then brings their ideas to our head master, Dr. Swarzman,
and she decides if it works within the schedule that is already
in place. If so, she gives the word, and the council starts to set
up the particulars for the date chosen. They also get to make suggestions
on what new little things that they just might want to sell or do
during the dance.
This month, we had something special because we had our dance in
the new school gym. Ashley Sierra, president of Student Council
gave the suggestion to sell glow-sticks. This was a smashing success!.
Fifth graders, look forward to next year's dances; they're going
to be great!
