Seventh
Grade Gets Out & About
By Bobby Hernandez
The seventh grade went to the Herpetology (HERP) room at the Lowry
Park Zoo. The HERP is not open to the public, so Mrs. Morey got
help from Alex Salisbury (a seventh grade student at IDS) to get
the special privilege.
"We were studying interactions between living things, and the
zoo behind the scenes let us do that," said Mrs. Morey.
"The most memorable part was when the seventh grade saw the
frozen mice that the zoo feeds to the snakes." -
The seventh grade also got to see an iguana being fed crickets and
also toured the Manatee Hospital. They also saw a possum and a owl
who were unable to be returned to the wild.
The owl only had one wing. The possum had been hit by a car, had
lost one eye and became blind in the other.
Mrs. Morey said, 'The best part of the trip was when we got to see
all the animals up close."
Current
Happenings in Middle School Spanish
By Ryan Jones
Hago bien en espanol. Y Usted? Middle school Spanish is learning
many different things this trimester.
The sixth grade is working on writing to describe people using verbs
"ser" and "ester." They have also done some
acrostic poems.
The seventh grade is describing likes and dislikes. The seventh
grade is also writing a book about their family members all in Spanish,
while starting to work on their clothing vocabulary.
Mrs. Mensch has started to talk to every class in Spanish and the
kids always have to answer the questions back in Spanish . "It
was tough at first, but the more she did it, the more I got what
she was saying," said eighth grader Andrew Boza.
The eighth grade has reached their halfway point in their book.
They have started the weather vocabulary. Mrs. Mensch said, "Every
student is making great strides in developing in Spanish class."
The middle school students are all doing different projects and
they are all doing great. Everyone is learning more Spanish each
day.
Math
Class with Mr. B
By Carl Cunnane
Mr. Bronson (Mr. B.) is very pleased with
the math program overall and with having Ms. Rosenburg as a partner.
They both have accomplished many things with the sixth grade.
Mr. B. said, "We have a great group of sixth graders; they
are well behaved and they have completed a significant portion of
Pre-Algebra."
He is looking forward to using the new computer lab because he has
plans for the sixth graders to incorporate the computers into his
math curriculum.
Mr. B. also explained that the eighth grade is doing very well.
"They are on track to finish Algebra One and will he doing
more Geometry equation'. Eighth grade is currently working on factoring
polynomials."
Mr. B said, "It's probably the most challenging topic in Algebra
One. Most are handling it well."
Overall the eighth and sixth grade are doing very well in math.
If they keep on this track they will graduate from their respective
grades with flying colors.
