Students Preparing for First Trimester
Tests
By Leah Davies
There are three trimester test weeks in every year, and the middle
school students are preparing for their first trimester tests of
this school year. The tests will be covering all of the information
that the students have learned in those twelve weeks.
Eighth grader Emily Tyler said, "I will review the study sheets
we get and our binders from that trimester on each subject so I
can make sure I do a good job."
In most subjects the middle school students will get a review sheet
so they can look over it. Also, all of the middle school teachers
will hold review sessions some time before the tests.
Mrs. Betty George, middle school director, said, " All middle
school students should go over all materials they have covered in
the trimester when they are studying." Mrs. George also thinks
that the students should spread out their studying instead of just
studying the night before, and a lot of teachers agree.
"When students study over time, they allow themselves the ability
to retain more information," explained Mr. Vokoun, the seventh
and eighth grade English teacher.
" Now that I am in eighth grade, I really need to work my hardest
at all of the tests and show my studying skills to insure good grades,"
Kelly Lawrence said.
The students will have one week of testing where each test will
be on a different day. They will take five tests: Social Studies,
English, Math, Science, and Spanish.
Adam Bebble, another eighth grader, said, " I will spend as
long as necessary to prepare until I feel confident. "
All students have notes, homework, tests, quizzes, study guides,
and a lot more to study.
Ally Winkles, eighth grader, said, " l find it easiest to write
down the question and the answer and then get my mom to check me.
I will do that until I know all the answers by heart."
All of the middle school has no homework over the week of testing
so they have that whole week and the weekend before to prepare.
There is one difference this trimester in the testing schedule.
The sixth grade social studies trimester test will be on Monday
because sixth graders are going to a Model United Nations conference
at the University of South Florida on Friday.
Good luck to all students on your tests.

Fun
Run Coming Up Nov. 18
By Adam Ross
People who are veterans at IDS probably
know what's coming up next weekend: the Fun Run. So mark your calendars
for Saturday, Nov. 1 8th for a day that will be filled with fun,
prizes, and races.
"Well, to start off with the Fun Run is a fun raiser, not a
fund raiser," Coach Kathy Folen said. "The money will
be used to supply Fun Run T-shirts, drinks, and special prizes of
IDS merchandise such as umbrellas, bottle holders, etc." She
also added
that anyone may run, including students, teachers, and parents.
People who are not connected with IDS can run as well.
When she was asked the reason for running, she responded that everyone
runs to have fun, and a person can jog or walk too. Also, people
can earn prizes by participating in this event. Prizes will be given
out for first place through third place in each age group. Plus,
everyone who runs gets an IDS l-shirt along with drinks and fun.
"I hope lots of people will come to run or walk," she
said.
